First time in front of the camera ?

Most of us are just normal people, in the sense that being in front of the camera can be a very daunting thing. You are not alone ! Every single time, I've been on the opposite end if the camera, I feel sooo awkward, like how should I stand, my smile feels weird and oh my word my hands - what to do with the hands ?

So I know this feeling all to well, so you shouldn't feel alone, the best technique I've picked up to get those effortless, authentic photos is through prompts ;)

I always have a few up my sleeve, but if you are planning your photoshoot with another photographer or just want to prepare a bit before the our planned photoshoot to calm the nerves here are some of my best advice.


Let's just start, what do I mean when I say prompts ?

It's literally actions to do while taking photos to get some beautiful laughter, movement or emotion in a photo. For awesome inspiration I make use of the Unscripted App (they have a free version available as well) and of course my trusted friend - pinterest.


Here are some of my favourites :

  • Whisper your favourite cereal in your significant other's ear - great for cute giggling photos
  • Put your arms around them, hold hands and smell their shoulder.
  • Playing red light, green light with the kids. I turn my back on the and they run towards me (green light), when I turn around it's red light and they freeze.

What to wear to a photoshoot

My best advice when dressing for a photoshoot, is still to be yourself. Therefore choosing a colour palette and everyone dressing in those colours is what I ALWAYS RECOMMEND. Click here for some inspiration.

Location, location.

Here is some suggestions for locations for your next photoshoot, please do keep in mind that there might be venue fees applicable or permission needed for a photoshoot to take place. Let me know if something catches your eye and I'll let you know all the details. Kindly note that location fees is not included in any of our packages and if a fee per person is applicable the photographer's entry fee will be additional to your chosen package.
